- Pick ‘n Pay to be DiscoveryCard partner from 1 January 2007 - Other partners being added include Nando’s, Stuttafords and Altech Netstar Discovery is pleased to announce the signing of Pick ‘n Pay as the new DiscoveryCard anchor partner, effective from 1 January 2007. At the same time, Woolworths will cease as a partner once the contract with them ends on 31 December 2006. Discovery believes the partnership with Pick ‘n Pay offers DiscoveryCard-holders impressive value. “Having the biggest retailer in South Africa as a DiscoveryCard partner presents all sorts of opportunities”, says Alan Pollard, CEO of Discovery Vitality, which operates the DiscoveryCard. “Importantly we continue to use the card as a platform for rewards to incentivise healthy behaviour. The cash back that the DiscoveryCard pays its members on their spend at Pick ’n Pay will tier upwards based on members’ Vitality status – from 5% at the Blue status level to 8% at the Gold status level. You get to Gold by doing the right things from a health point of view. “ Vitality members whose employers participate in Vitality WellPoint, Discovery’s exciting new corporate wellness programme also launched this week, can earn further cash back through their DiscoveryCard – up to 13% on their spend at Pick ‘n Pay, depending on their company’s WellPoint status. Jonathan Ackerman; Marketing Director of Pick ’n Pay, says they are looking forward to partnering with the DiscoveryCard and Vitality, which provides exciting and innovative incentives for members to look after their health. Other new partners have been signed up in the form of, Nando’s, Stuttafords and Altech Netstar, taking the total DiscoveryCard partner network to 17 premier retail brands from 1 January 2007. “The Nando’s partnership is another particularly exciting development, since Nando’s will be highlighting healthy meal options on its menu for Vitality members” says Pollard. Pollard concludes that the new partners show the attractiveness of the DiscoveryCard to Vitality members and retailers alike. “To date DiscoveryCard-holders have spent a total of R3.5 billion since it was launched in October 2004, and we have paid back over R50 million in cash back over that period,” he says.
