The Association of Insurance Assessors of Southern Africa, as it was then known, was formed in 1960.
The name was changed to The Institute of Loss Adjusters of Southern Africa on 20 August 1968 and the name registered with the Bureau of Heraldry on that date.
No person other than a member of the Institute may use the term Loss Adjuster.
The Institute has a Constitution and By-Laws, and controls the professional standards and conduct of its members by means of a Code of Conduct and a Disciplinary Procedure.
The Institute operates under the control of the President, Treasurer, Administrator and an Executive Committee drawn from its members.
Regional Chairpersons are appointed to the National Committee.
